Lavender-Cedarwood Essential Oil Mist

Hello there!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas weekend. Are you team “take down all the seasonal decor right away” or “I’ll wait until the new year”'?

I think I am somewhere in-between. I started getting in the Christmas spirit very early this year, so albeit my minimal seasonal decor is still up (trying to keep it simple because of two little children), I am ready to give our home a refresh before the new year starts.

But all that aside. (You can read: Blessings of My Small Shop here as a quick 2022 recap.)

I was inspired to put together this little DIY post for you as I needed to give our Room + Linen Mist bottle that we keep in the small hallway half bath a refill today - finally. It did last forever, as one or two spritzes do wonders to refresh the room.

Make your own Lavender - Cedarwood Essential Oil Mist

This aroma is a classic in our home, as it is both soothing, smells generally very lovely, and is safe to use around children.

We use it all year around.

Here is what you need to make your own 2-in-1 aromatic mist that’s simple but effective and does not contain any harsh chemicals that may disrupt our hormones or irritate our respiratory system — as often found in generic room sprays.

You will need:

  • 2 oz glass bottle with mist top

  • about 10 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) essential oil

  • about 10 drops Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana) essential oil

  • filtered or distilled water

  • optional: high proof alcohol (min. 120 proof)

Add the desired drops of essential oils to the glass bottle and swirl for a moment.

If you choose to use high proof alcohol such as Everclear, fill about 2/3 of the bottle.

Then top off with filtered or distilled water.

It’s an Easy Essential Oil DIY

And it also makes for a lovely little useful (housewarming) gift - or really for any occasion.

You don’t have to necessarily use alcohol. But it acts as a solubilizer (helps essential oils and water merge), as well as preservative.

If you want to make a larger bottle, let’s say a 4 oz, simply adjust the drops of essential oils: Add about 5 drops more of each. But also no need to depending on if you like the aroma very light. Have fun experimenting.

You can also try different synergies of essential oils or simply use one single oil you enjoy.

Mist in room, on bedding, towels, throw pillows or couch, for instance, to give your home a naturally inviting aroma.
